Osmanlı’nın son dönemleri, 19. yüzyılın sonları, bugünkü Karaköy’de Bankalar Caddesi diye bilinen yer, ismini Slavcada ‘Bey, Ağa’ anlamına gelen ‘Voyvoda’ kelimesinden alan, bugünkü anlamda bankaların ilk defa ortaya çıktığı ve sarrafların, bankerlerin buradaki büyük hanlarda ilk kağıt para örneklerinin, Osmanlıca adıyla ‘kaime’nin tutulduğu kasaların bulunduğu yer idi.Bugün burada birçok sanat galerisi açıldı, bunlardan bazıları Salt Galata, Kasa Galeri, Depo, Anna Laudel Galerisi, Space...

Karakoy: Istanbul’s art district
